Loss (2005)

Artist Statement:

The dismembered images in this series reflect the suffering of a broken heart. Through this series, I display my inner landscape as a step in my healing process. Though eerie, the dramatic play of light in these photographs symbolizes my waking up and emerging from the insomniac’s world of perpetual shadow.

I walked around for a year feeling as if my head was detached from my body. The models in the photos are alive and dismembered, some without arms to reach the light, some without legs to walk away. Half eaten by darkness; half hidden in an act of survival. The images are beautiful in their sadness, expressing an acceptance and even a celebration of the still beating heart inside the broken body.
